Eleventh of July -- I'm terrified to fly for the first time in my life.
The hours disappear and suddenly it's here: the premier of our career.
Off the plane I stumbled anxiously,
downstairs to see you waiting there for me.
You told me to relax, and so began the act: "You are all I'll ever need!"

At that nice hotel, rehearsal went so well, just learning how we felt.
But acting is a lot harder than we thought;
I improvised the plot, but you told me to stop.
"It's alright, love -- just one more rocky night, love,
on bedsides left and right."

Increasingly reacting to each sound,
you grabbed my hand: "We need to shoot right now!"
The alcohol was cold, the sheets became our clothes,
but you could barely show me how ...

I saw my cue and gave the awkward hug,
head in your chest, ashamed and tearing up.
No castle, half a song, no having fun ...
I improvised the plot and you kept pleading:
"Don't walk! It's alright, love -- just one more rocky night, love!"

"But how can this be love, love?
'Cause by the 14th we were stone, and yet to Baltimore we drove.
Our faces cracked to laugh when you met mom and dad.
The concert sounded quiet -- a roller coaster ride
dropping down, dropping down, dropping down, down, down
from a summit not so high."

We watched careers dissolve as we sat in your car.
You cried of suicide (it almost sounded right).
Instead, we grabbed your stuff; one kiss and you were off ...
and I faintly smiled as I slept soft.
