Tonight
03:24
|
|||
Most stars are far but bright.
They leave a pattern on your eyes
(haphazard dots of white).
Clouds surrounding a murky sky,
but everything is clear tonight.
Everything is clear.
Everything is clear tonight.
Everything is clear tonight.
Most friends just speak their mind,
so most asides are dull-edged knives.
Is this a cue to cry?
Grab the handle and twist it inside --
blood will dye your shirt tonight.
Blood will dye your shirt.
Blood will dye your shirt tonight.
Blood will dye your shirt tonight.
Wasted wordsmiths with warped mirror sight,
wasted wordsmiths with warped mirror sight,
wasted wordsmiths with warped mirror sight,
wasted wordsmiths with warped mirror sight:
Everything is clear tonight!
Everything is clear!
Everything is clear tonight!
Everything is clear tonight!
Everything's mostly alright,
all things almost alright.
Everything's mostly alright,
all things almost alright.
Everything is ??????????

Eleventh of July -- I'm terrified to fly for the first time in my life.
The hours disappear and suddenly it's here: the premier of our career.
Off the plane I stumbled anxiously,
downstairs to see you waiting there for me.
You told me to relax, and so began the act: "You are all I'll ever need!"
At that nice hotel, rehearsal went so well, just learning how we felt.
But acting is a lot harder than we thought;
I improvised the plot, but you told me to stop.
"It's alright, love -- just one more rocky night, love,
on bedsides left and right."
Increasingly reacting to each sound,
you grabbed my hand: "We need to shoot right now!"
The alcohol was cold, the sheets became our clothes,
but you could barely show me how ...
I saw my cue and gave the awkward hug,
head in your chest, ashamed and tearing up.
No castle, half a song, no having fun ...
I improvised the plot and you kept pleading:
"Don't walk! It's alright, love -- just one more rocky night, love!"
"But how can this be love, love?
'Cause by the 14th we were stone, and yet to Baltimore we drove.
Our faces cracked to laugh when you met mom and dad.
The concert sounded quiet -- a roller coaster ride
dropping down, dropping down, dropping down, down, down
from a summit not so high."
We watched careers dissolve as we sat in your car.
You cried of suicide (it almost sounded right).
Instead, we grabbed your stuff; one kiss and you were off ...
and I faintly smiled as I slept soft.
My family's thread is strong, my friends help me belong
in any place the camera's off.
My family's thread is strong, my friends help me belong
in any place the camera's off.

Poster Child

We could start a club for kids who don't give a shit;
a Facebook page sounds ambitious enough.
With prices rising of various kinds,
they're giving medals and flowers if you get out of bed.
And with your duties reducing to stupid last words,
you're optimistic if you're breathing at all.
But I took a shower at night -- if I'm lucky,
I'll not forget by the time the sun rises.
Make yourself feel useful in a world that is bound to burn.
Make yourself feel useful in a world that is bound to burn.
I can fuck you all if I want to --
I finally stood inside a condom and survived.
I can fuck you all if I want to --
I did it all at least six or seven times.
No need for a book or a move of anything more than my fingertips.
No use for a tape recorder ... I will never, ever need a haircut again.
Make yourself feel useful in a world that is bound to burn.
Make yourself feel useful in a world that is bound to burn.
I can fuck you all if I want to.
I could fuck you all if I wanted to.
And I don't need another person to fuck you --
I am living proof (I AM THE GODDAMNED POSTER CHILD!!!!!!!).
Make yourself feel useful in a world that is bound to burn.
Make yourself feel useful in a world that is bound to burn.
Make yourself feel useful in a world that is bound to burn.
Make yourself feel useful in a world that is bound to burn.
You better make yourself feel useful.
You've got to make yourself feel useful now.
You want to make yourself feel useful, huh?
Go try to make yourself feel useful ... but you won't succeed.

Original Skin
04:29
|

The only song people sing is, "The President's Dead,"
all ignoring the kings with their scepters left in bed.
But soon we'll all be rocking out to "4:33,"
because no one gives a damn about how the song's affecting me.
Well, she heard a lot of rumors but they never broke the tomb --
just dotted with darts and some cartoon heirlooms.
The sharks all sound like minnows when you're humming that tune --
all dotted with darts and some cartoon heirlooms.
They've got a toaster on the TV with an artificial gleam,
burning hands and hopes and hair gel with a superficial scheme.
But I am too damned proud to let them tug my limbs;
the horses' ropes have all frayed against the original skin.
Oh, she heard a lot of rumors but they never broke the tomb --
just dotted with darts and some cartoon heirlooms.
The sharks all sound like minnows when you're humming that tune --
all choking on darts and some cartoon heirlooms.
But who knows where the timing goes?
Oh, who knows where the timing goes?
Oh, who knows where the timing goes?
Oh, who knows where the timing goes?
And they just hype the blind pipe 'til the shoes don't fit.
They just hype the blind pipe 'til the shoes don't fit.
All my friends are lonely fountains, all my friends are lonely fountains,
all my friends are lonely fountains leaking 'til I drown.
She heard a lot of rumors but they never broke the tomb --
just dotted with darts and some cartoon heirlooms.
The sharks all sound like minnows when you're humming that tune --
all dotted with darts and some cartoon heirlooms.
But who knows where the timing goes?
Oh, who knows where the timing goes?
Just sea-bound, lost and brave in those underwater waves.
Just sea-bound, lost and brave in those underwater waves.
All the best storms are silent, all the best storms are silent,
all the best storms are silent, all the best storms are silent.
Quiet down now! Quiet down now! Quiet down now! Quiet down now!
Quiet down now! Quiet down now! Quiet down now!

Monday came, I watched it pass -- the last one left I had for myself.
Countless things (an easy seize), but I sadly smiled.
Two beers left, catching up on one week's worth of mourning my health.
All my friends in Cali sun, and I sadly smiled.
At the Laundromat, rain on the window looks like melting glass.
A nearby stranger sighs -- all we wants are his clothes clean and dry.
It's hot fun in the summertime:
the only day of life, the only day of life.
Hot fun in the summertime:
The only day of life, and every bright light blinds.
Six whole days, East Coast haze, total waste of PHO's,
and what you got plus what you thought is all sad regret.
No more plan, no more van, "All You Need is Love" melody mocking ...
a boy and girl who changed the world? Sad as it gets.
But your mom consoled;
you saw your sister and all things turned gold,
and your dad made jokes.
You laughed sincerely, but then your throat broke.
It's hot fun in the summertime:
the only day of life, the only day of life.
Hot fun in the summertime:
The only day of life, and every bright light blinds.
Where's your T-Bird now? Where's your T-Bird now?
Where's your T-Bird now?
Where's your T-Bird now? Where's your T-Bird now?
Where's your T-Bird now?
A full eight minutes pass -- your clothes are dry, it's time to head back.
And when the door unlocks, you'll rush inside, but the rain will not stop.
It's hot fun in the summertime:
the only day of life, the only day of life.
Hot fun in the summertime:
The only day of life, and every bright light blinds.
Hot fun in the summertime:
It's always sun and light (what a fucking lie!).
Hot fun in the summertime ...
where is your T-Bird, where is your T-Bird now?

Arching Angles
03:21
|

Bleary-eyed wonder; no darkness, no thunder --
just a shiny, winged creature descending into the crater.
She's a pretty good looker; realized she's my sister.
She asked me to join her and I felt like a loner, but I swear I know her.
Arching angles, arching angles.
Arching angles, arching angles.
Arching angles, arching angles.
I ran to my mother, my lips overflowing and eager;
the flood drowned her in anger and then became mud.
And then I became bluster, sharpened nouns to assault her.
A legacy of disaster -- every word became, "Cunt! Cunt! Cunt! Cunt!"
Arching angles, arching angles.
Arching angles, arching angles.
Arching angles, arching angles.
Corner full of salt, corner full of salt.
Corner full of salt, corner full of salt.
Heart-painted bathtub, heart-painted bathtub.
Heart-painted bathtub, heart-painted bathtub.
Heart-painted bathtub, heart-painted bathtub.
Heart-painted bathtub, heart-painted bathtub.

Rosalynne

Hey, who you kidding? We've both been bleeding.
Hey, who you kidding? We both are healing.
But since we severed our old siphon,
that's exactly what we're hiding from the world.
God, this game is getting old -- stop Your scolding!
God, is this game not Your goal -- I've got to know, I've got to know!
We've become those lonely people
scribbled in pencil and Salinger novels.
Hey, who you kidding? We've both been bleeding.
Hey, who you kidding? We both are healing.
But since we severed our old siphon,
that's exactly what we're hiding from the world.
They told me all I had to do was plant a kiss;
of course, the only place you slept was in my head.
And maybe I should force myself out of the bed ...
which means I'll never see you again.
Hey, lady, do you need a tramp? Hey, lady, do you need a tramp?
Hey, lady, do you need a tramp? Hey, lady, do you need a tramp?
Julie, I'm sorry, but Rosalynne's calling.
Julie, I'm sorry, but Rosalynne's calling.
Julie, I'm sorry, but Rosalynne's calling.
Julie, I'm sorry, but Rosalynne's calling me.
God, this game is getting old -- stop Your scolding!
God, is this game not Your goal -- I've got to know, I've got to know!
We've become those lonely people
scribbled in pencil and Salinger novels.
God, this game is getting old -- stop Your scolding!
God, is this game not Your goal -- I've got to know, I've got to know!
We've become those lonely people

Turpentine
03:43
|

Oranges turn black when they have found their falling.
Ocelots are gentle and birds are still stalling.
Ogres go blind and follow callings.
No one gives a damn.
Here lies their treasure and a hundred pollings;
they wear out words weak with bolding.
I heard the worst ones are still holding them far too close to fly.
We're far too close to fly.
Feeling too close to fly on our own.
Feeling too fast, feeling up the phone.
Feeling too close to fly or stay stoned.
Oh my gosh, our grown bones ...
They saw me failing and fought a different war;
I took guns and gauze galore,
and I found my midwife there and gladly amused her sores.
I'm feeling mighty fine, I'm feeling mighty fine.
I'm feeling mighty fine now that my new heart reeks of turpentine.
I'm feeling mighty fine; I still can't fly ...
She took her bags and caimans, made a tiny house.
She made a picture book with poppies and a blouse.
I shook my sharings out and pouted an ounce's worth
and went to bed and went to bed and went to bed.
We feel alright now that they don't sing,
but we still can't see the house with pretty things.
We feel alright now that light is screaming,
but we still can't see ...
we still can't see, we still can't see, we still can't see.
We still can't see, we still can't see, we still can't see.
I'm feeling mighty fine, I'm feeling mighty fine, I'm feeling mighty fine.
I'm feeling mighty fine, I'm feeling mighty fine, I'm feeling mighty fine.

Refunds
06:17
|

I've got my toes on megaphone; they say that they've found a martyr.
One more lost fight and Halloween lights -- the good old fire-starter.
Three lives are pulsing out my palm now ...
lights so bright, I've got to fly to India.
One stupid sticky pin is reddening ...
lights so bright, my crying night's irrelevant.
Today, I appeased and made some words rhyme.
Today, I took a shower.
Today, I saw rock and roll's 10,000th future
and shrugged to see myself acting the coward.
Two lives are pulsing out my palm now ...
lights so bright, I've got to fly to India.
One stupid sticky pin is reddening ...
lights so bright, my crying night's irrelevant.
Too late for refunds, too late for refunds, you'll be fine.
Too late for refunds, too late for refunds, you'll be fine.
One life just lingers in my palm now ...
lights so bright, I've got to fly to India.
One stupid sticky pin is reddening ...
lights so bright, my crying night's irrelevant.
No pulse is pumping in my palm now.
The lights are bright -- I finally got to India.
One stupid sticky pin's a sacred seed
for lights so bright, my crying night's irrelevant.
No need for refunds, no need for refunds, you're just fine.
No need for refunds, no need for refunds, I've never felt so fine.

Dances
04:07
|
|||
Do you remember high school dances?
Hazy stares instead of glances?
Kiddos, that shit's just the iceberg's tip!
But we smiled and held each other close --
I by your hips, you by my shoulders.
I swear that is all I've wanted since then.
But age sets in and we forget the faces, names and innocence.
"But the feeling never goes away!" Nothing but cliched.
Of course the feeling goes away -- I know because I desperately
went searching and it tricked me in a large, expensive bed.
The 10 days pass, and then the end (exactly like the rest of them):
departures, lectures, tears, indifference.
But this one hurt a little more ... I promised never to explore that far
until vows were clearly spoken.
Oh, that snake is such a clever whore,
and I ate those apples to their cores.
Oh, that red delicious aftertaste is spit and dirt and poison.
And I know God's humor all too well,
so one day if I hear those bells,
I'll also hear Him laughing through my guilt-ridden confession.
Those dances are replaced by sadness, age and infinite cliches.
Those dances are replaced by sadness, age and infinite cliches.
